IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD
Fostering or adopting through Uphold Homes, Inc means that we will be able to provide safe and nurturing homes to children whose families are experiencing a crisis, so severe that the children are removed from their homes. Unfortunately, there are not enough homes to place these children in.
Receiving foster and / or adoptive training through Uphold Homes, Inc. will ensure the physical and emotional well-being of the child while either, the parents work to be reunited with their child or as the child and adoptive family work towards achieving adoption finalization. More homes (Foster or Adoptive) being trained through Uphold Homes, Inc. will help make sure a youth, that may be removed from their home, will be able to stay in their same county, same school and same familiar surroundings. A child being removed from their home is already traumatic enough for the child, therefore, being able to allow a child to remain as close to home as possible makes the trauma of removal less severe.
STEP 1: ORIENTATION
The first step to becoming a foster parent, adoptive parent or respite care provider is to attend our required orientation session where potential applicants can learn more about the foster and adoptive programs offered. The Uphold Homes, Inc staff will be available to answer any questions and to help you understand the foster and adoptive process, and assist you with completing the application. This initial session will take no more than an hour to complete.
STEP 2: IMPACT TRAINING
Uphold Homes, Inc provides potential foster and adoptive parent applicants with the required training for their certification with the state of Georgia, called IMPACT. During IMPACT training, potential parents will participate in a 23-hour mandatory training program. IMPACT will help prepare applicants to prepare for what to expect from the foster care and adoptive system, resources to help meet the need of children in care, child development, working in partnership with biological parents and the effect foster care will have on their lives and the lives of their family. During the third session, a case worker will schedule a meeting with the applicants in their home. Once approved, all applicants are required to maintain 15 continuing education training hours per year.
STEP 3: HOME STUDY
After completion of Uphold Homes, Inc IMPACT training and satisfactory criminal background checks, a written home study of the potential applicant's strengths, family life, childhood, relationships, financials, health and the families recommended placement preferences is prepared. The home study is utilized to match families with children.
